Pak PM welcomes delegation of Buddhist monks from Sri Lanka

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan received an 11-member delegation of prominent Buddhist Monks from Sri Lanka who visited Pakistan on the invitation of the government there.
Imran Khan underscored the importance of enhancing people to people contacts and strengthening interfaith harmony.
While highlighting the glorious Gandara heritage of his country, the PM said Pakistan was a proud custodian of some of the most sacred Buddhist sites in the world, and informed the delegation that his government was currently working on creating a Holy Buddhist Trail which would include the most revered Buddhist heritage sites in Pakistan.
The delegation appreciated Pakistan’s initiatives to develop Holy Buddhist Trail as well as the renovation work being done on various archaeological and religious sites. Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Pakistan, Vice Admiral (Retd.) Mohan Wijewickrema organised the visit of the delegation and looked after their interests.

Employees’ Trust Fund Act No. 46 of 1980 to be amended

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by the Hon. President in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies to instruct the legal draftsman to prepare a bill to amend the Employees’ Trust Provident Fund Act No. 46 of 1980 enabling to provide health insurance similar to Agrahara health insurance to private sector employees.

Cabinet nod for MOU between the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Republic of Maldives on Cultural Cooperation

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural affairs to sign a cultural cooperation agreement between the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Maldives. (The draft agreement has received the clearance of the Attorney General and the approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
