New Kurunegala PS building complex opened

Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa and Chief Government Whip Highways Minister Johnston Fernando declared open the newly constructed three-storeyed Kurunegala Pradeshiya Sabha Complex yesterday (02).

Construction work on the new PS building complex built at a cost of Rs 215 million was commenced in the latter part of 2019 under the Pura Neguma Project of the Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government Affairs as per the Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour Programme of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The new building houses a Shroff office, Public Health Office, StoreHouse, Archival Unit, Restaurant, and a Gymnasium on the ground floor. The Technical Division, Administrative Division, Community Development and Environment Division, Economic Development Unit, Press and Chairman’s office are housed on the First Floor, while the auditorium and conference hall are on the Second Floor.

The Pradeshiya Sabha is the general administrative authority for the purpose of all thoroughfares and communications, other than principal thoroughfares, within its administrative limits and for the purposes of the protection of any principal thoroughfare that may be situated within its area, and for such purpose to exercise or perform in relation to any such principal thoroughfare to take all necessary measures for securing and maintaining all public rights, interests, and amenities arising out of, or in connection with, all thorough fares or upon spaces within its area and for utilizing, regulating, adapting, and developing such thoroughfares or open spaces for public purposes.

The Ministerial Consultative Committee on Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils & Local Government chaired by  Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena as well as the Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government  unanimously consented to cancel the nominations submitted for the Local Government Elections given that those who have submitted nominations have faced great difficulties due to the postponement of the elections.
