Navy renders assistance to barge ‘Atulya’ and tug ‘Avadh’ which drifted to Nadukuda beach

The barge ‘Atulya’ drifted to the Nadukuda beach area, South of Mannar

The Navy rendered assistance to the barge ‘Atulya’, towed by tug ‘Avadh’, en route from Maldives to India which drifted to the Nadukuda coast in Mannar south, northwest of Sri Lanka, on the evening of 07th July 2023.

The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC)  Chennai, India on 06th July notified MRCC Colombo that the tug ‘Avadh’ had developed a mechanical issue and was drifting towards Sri Lankan waters with the barge ‘Atulya’. Due to the prevailing rough sea and strong winds the distressed tug and barge had drifted to the Nadukuda beach area, South of Mannar by the afternoon of 07th July,

President, the Cabinet of Ministers has decided to grant policy approval for the establishment of the Chartered Computer Institute of Sri Lanka and to instruct the Legal Draftsman to prepare a draft bill in line with the proposed objectives.

it has become essential to introduce appropriate revisions to the Drug Dependent Persons (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act No 54 of 2007 so that a proper formal mechanism can be  maintained in treatment and rehabilitation.

Accordingly, considering a resolution forwarded by the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to grant the policy approval to revise the Drug Dependent Persons (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act No 54 of 2007 and direct the Legal Draftsman to formulate a draft bill including the relevant amendments.
