Navy Commander attends Russia`s Navy Day Parade in St. Petersburg
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne and President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Chandima Ulugetenne, who were on an official visit to Russia, attended events to celebrate the 325th anniversary of the Russian Navy recently. They attended the event at the invitation of the Commander in Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov.
The Main Parade took place in St Petersburg. Ships of the Navies of India, Pakistan and Iran, too, were present at the event, along with Navy chiefs from Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Iran, Brazil and Myanmar.
The Navy Commander also took part in a reception that was held at the official residence of the Commander in Chief of the Russian Navy in St. Petersburg to welcome the visiting Navy Chiefs and delegates who attended the event. Speaking on the occasion, Vice Admiral Ulugetenne said that Sri Lanka believed in a collaborative and cooperative approach to deal with common maritime security challenges. Congratulating the Russian Navy on this special occasion, the Commander of the Lankan Navy expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his Russian counterpart for inviting the Sri Lanka Navy for Russia`s Navy Day.
During the visit, Vice Admiral Ulugetenne also called on Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov and discussed several matters of bilateral importance and recalled the long-standing relationship between the two navies. The cordial discussion drew to a close with an exchange of mementoes to mark the occasion.
On the sidelines, the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne met the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) of the Indian Navy, Admiral Karambir Singh, during a reception hosted onboard the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Tabar, which took part in Russia`s Navy Day parade. Vice Admiral Ulugetenne also had a frank exchange of views with Vice Admiral Sergei Yeliseyev, Deputy Commander of Russian Navy’s Baltic Fleet.

Amendment of the Inland Revenue Act No. 24 of 2017
Approval of the Cabinet of Ministers has been granted at their meeting held on 19.05.2025 in order to introduce amendments to the Inland Revenue Act No. 24 of 2017 including the proposed tax revisions to enhance the tax structure paving way for state financial integrity based on revenue.
Accordingly, the revised draft bill has been prepared by the legal draftsman and clearance of the Attorney General has been received.
Therefore, the Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval for
the resolution furnished by the President in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Policy Planning and Economic Development to publish the aforementioned draft bill in the government gazette notification and subsequently, forward the same to the Parliament for its concurrence.

Cabinet nod for “National Mineral Policy” – 2026
The National Mineral Policy was prepared for the first time in the year 1999, and the aforementioned policy has been amended in 2023 to cover matters such as preparing an updated data system related to mineral resources, adding value to the export of minerals, encouraging mineral-related industrialists, extracting mineral resources and managing the environment sustainably, and resolving the issues related to the ownership of the land arising in extracting mineral resources.
The revised National Mineral Policy has been reupdated in line with the manifesto “A Sustainable Resource Utilization – Generation of the Highest Benefit” under the policy statement of the current government” A Thriving Nation – A Beautiful Life.”
Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the resolution presented by the Minister of Industries and
Entrepreneurship to implement the so-formulated “National Mineral Policy—2026.”
