More than 130 tanks damaged

Over 130 irrigation tanks/weirs under the Department of Agrarian Development have been damaged by the floods.Commissioner General of Agrarian Development Rohana Rajapaksha said most of the damage has taken place in the Vavuniya District.
“97 tanks have been damaged. Another 93 tanks are vulnerable to damage. 36 weirs have been damaged. 12 more are in a vulnerable state,” he said.
According to him, 108 canal bunds have also been damaged. “As mentioned earlier, we have seen most damage in Vavuniya where 42 tanks have been damaged. In the Anuradhapura district 11 tanks have been damaged,” he said.Meanwhile, Director General, Road Development Authority, S. M. P. Suriyabandara said they will take steps to repair the roads and bridges that have been destroyed in the Northern, Eastern and North Central Provinces.

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure Facilities to hold the 26th Session of the Intergovernmental Group on Tea of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the 4th Annual Meeting of the Asian Tea Alliance to commemorate the Centenary Anniversary of the Tea Research Institute in Colombo from 9th November to 14th November in 2025 and to take necessary steps in that respect.
