Mahanama crush St. Servatius’ to take tournament leader title

Mahanama recorded crushing innings and 75 runs victory over St. Servatius’ as they established themselves as the leaders of the Under 19 Division I Tier ‘A’ cricket tournament at the Bloomfield ground on Sunday.
Centuries by Chamika Heenatigala and Sithum Vihanga set the stage for their second outright victory of the season as they posted 360 for six wickets declared on the second day morning.
Anuka Wijewardana, Sithum Vihaga and Chamika Heenatigala then shared bowling honours to dismiss the team from Matara twice.
Deciding to bat first, Heenatigala and Vihanga put on 187 runs for the fourth wicket. Heenatigala scored 106 runs (in 171 balls) inclusive of eight fours and a six. Vihanga’s 102 (in 136 balls) was inclusive of two fours and six sixes.
Mahanama are the only team to score two outright victories in the Tier ‘A’ tournament and have also registered two first innings wins so far in the tourney. The unbeaten team are the leading team in the top tier irrespective of the group they are in.
For St. Servatius’, it was their second outright defeat.
In the other matches on Sunday, Trinity took control against Maliyadewa at Asgiriya and St. Thomas’ Matara took first innings lead against Moratu Vidyalaya.

Ganuka, Yuhansa reach semis
Ganuka Fernando and Yuhansa Peiris continued their forward march in the ongoing J30 ITF Junior week 4 tournament as they won the quarter final matches in the boys’ and girls’ singles categories on Wednesday.
In the boys’ singles quarter finals Ganuka beat Thirumurugan Viswanathan of India 7-6, 6-0.
Yuhansa beat Daria Lokotkova of Ukraine 1-6, 6-4, 6-2.
