Maha Kumbabishekam Ceremony of Mayurapathy Bathrakali Amman Kovil on April 4

Mayurapathy Sri Bathrakali Amman Kovil of Wellawatte announced that the Maha Kumbabishekam (Consecration Ceremony) will be held auspiciously on Sunday, April 4.

Shri Bathrakali Amman will be consecrated along with the deities in the Kovil. The grand ceremony will be held from 6.00 am to 7.00 am during the auspicious time of Amirth Siddhi Yoga in the zodiac sign of Pisces.

The Kumbabishekam is part of the festival to mark the reopening of the temple with a new look after a massive reconstruction. The festival commences with a special Pooja for Lord Ganesh on March 29 from 6.30 am. Oil Anointing begins on Thursday April 1 from 7.30 am to 9.00 pm. Devotees will be allowed to apply oil to the deities during that time and on Friday, April 2 from 7.30 am to 3.30 pm. The Maha Kumbabishekam (Consecration Ceremony) continues on Sunday, April 4 from 6.00 am to 7.30 am. From Monday, April 5 to Wednesday, May 19 Mandala Abishekam pooja will be performed for 45 days in the mornings and evenings.

Mayurapathy Bathrakali Amman Kovil known for its stunning architecture has been renovated beautifully. A three-storey shrine top made of stones gives an elegant look to the eastern gate while the northern gate is beautified by a magnificent five-storey shrine top.

Mayurapathy Kovil’s administration cordially invites all devotees to make reservations and participate in the poojas and invoke the blessings of Shri Bathrakali Amman.

Devotees are also requested to participate in the alms-giving (Annadhanam) and donate rice, dhal, vegetables and oil for this purpose.
