‘Hashish’ from Italy with street value of Rs 61 mn taken into custody
Customs’ Revenue Task Force Directorate on Tuesday (02) evening detected a large consignment of ‘Hashish,’ weighing over four kilos.
The contraband was found inside a parcel that was sent from Italy declared as food items and addressed to a person at Homagama.
The detection was made at the office of Serendib Cargo Services.
The person who went there to clear the parcel from the Customs was placed under arrest.
The contraband and the suspect were handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) for further investigations.
According to the Customs Spokesperson, Senior Customs Director Seevali Arukgoda, the estimated street value of the ‘Hashish’ consignment was Rs. 61.36 million.
During 2023 the Customs foiled eight attempts to smuggle in narcotics into the country and impounded contraband with a street value of Rs. 359 million.

Cabinet approves 14 day Visa extension
