Face masks and rapid antigen test kits worth Rs. 25Mn presented to Army chief
IME Korea and SD Biosensors through their local counterparts jointly donated a stock of face masks for the use of servicemen engaged in preventive work and rapid antigen test kits for COVID-19 diagnoses.
The donation from both companies dealing with global in-vitro diagnostic requirements was made possible due to an initiative by the Sri Lankan Embassy in Seoul, Korea, in close consultation with General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operations Centre for Prevention of Covid-19 Outbreak.
The stock included 8,000 face masks and 10,000 rapid antigen test kits to the value of around Rs. 25 million.
General Shavendra Silva, accepting the donation symbolically at Army Headquarters in Sri Jayewardenepura, commended the donors’ thoughtfulness and appreciation of the role played by tri-servicemen against Covid-19 transmission.
The local partners of the Korean companies, Warrick SEO, Director, Seek Energy Private Limited, Country Head, Rumesh Ubayasiri, Seek Energy Private Limited and Udara Senanayake, Assistant Manager, Seek Energy Private Limited were present during the meet with the Commander of the Army.
During the interaction, General Shavendra Silva explained the series of Covid preventive measures being implemented by the troops, irrespective around the clock and the commitment of troops, health workers and other stakeholders against its transmission.

Four new Supreme Court Justices Sworn In
Four newly appointed Supreme Court Justices took their oaths of office before President Anura Kumara Disanayake this morning (12) at the Presidential Secretariat.
Accordingly, Court of Appeal Justices R.M.S. Rajakaruna, Menaka Wijesundara, Sampath B. Abeykoon, and M.S.K.B. Wijeratne were sworn in as Supreme Court Justices during the ceremony presided over by the President.

High Court Judge Ranga Dissanayake appointed Director General of CIABOC
President Anura Kumara Disanayake has appointed High Court Judge Ranga Dissanayake as the new Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
The formal letter of appointment was officially handed over to him by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, at the Presidential Secretariat .

Navy seize two Indian fishing boats poaching in Sri Lankan waters north of Mannar
The Sri Lanka Navy seized two Indian fishing boats and apprehend eight Indian fishermen while they were poaching in Sri Lankan waters, during a special operation conducted in the sea area north of Mannar in the dark hours of 11th January 2025.
The Navy continues to conduct regular patrols and operations in Sri Lankan waters to curb illegal fishing practices of foreign fishing boats, taking into account the impact of those practices on the livelihood of local fishermen.
The seized boats together with Indian fishermen were brought to the island of Iranativu and were to be handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries, Kilinochchi for onward legal proceedings.
Including this operation, the Navy has held 03 Indian fishing boats and 18 Indian fishermen in Sri Lankan waters thus far in 2025, and handed them over to authorities for legal action.
