Edumix bags Bronze at National ICT Awards

Edumix, a Learning Management System (LMS) for Sri Lankan institutes, won a Bronze Award in the education in inclusions and community services category at the recently held National ICT Awards – NBQSA 2022. Edumix provides educational institutes a safe, cost effective and convenient option to continue its business in an online/hybrid environment. Edumix, which is a product of Databox Technologies (Pvt.) Ltd, is currently being used by over 70 educational institutes (with over 80,000 students). These institutions include General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Sisulka Higher Educational Institute, Ratnapura, Syzygy Nugegoda / Gampaha, Infinity Business School, Amila Dassanayake Institute and Anuradha Perera Institute. NBQSA is the only National ICT competition in Sri Lanka to showcase and recognize the innovations of individuals and organizations for their outstanding contribution to the development of ICT Industry in Sri Lanka.

“Edumix is a full fledge institute management solution that allows students to select their preferred learning method and attend to classes without any barriers. This reduces a lot of operational hassle for the institution.” CEO of Databox Technologies (Pvt.) Ltd Prabath Perera stated commenting on the award. He added that Edumix has a built in DRM protection for video content. Previously DRM, an expensive service, had to be purchased by international vendors like VideoCipher, Amazon.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Power and Energy on the recommendation of the Ministry of Tourism and Lands, to acquire 219.72 hectares of land in Siyambalanduwa Divisional Secretariat Division of Monaragala District and lease the relevant extent of land on a long-term lease basis for a period of 25 years to the Sustainable Energy Authority, with relevant provisions to enable sub-leasing to a selected renewable energy developer.

Chemicals to be regulated to prevent misuse

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by the  President in his capacity as the Minister of Defense to make arrangements to regulate  chemicals that could be misused, and to transfer the said regulatory role to the National Authority for the Implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Among the large number of different chemicals that are used in the country for peaceful purposes such as industrial, agricultural, medical and research activities it has been observed that among those chemicals, chemicals like Nitric acid, Chlorine, Hydrogen Peroxide, Potassium Cyanide, sodium cyanide, Nitro Methane and Sodium Azide are of dual use nature which can be used in many different industries such as milk, beverages, oil-related industries, water purification etc. can be used for harmful activities that threaten national security.
