Detection of coronavirus infections leads to partial shutdown of Jaffna town

The Jaffna District COVID-19 eradication committee, on Thursday, decided to shut down a part of the Jaffna town and impose travel restrictions on another section thereof following the detection of 79 Covid-19 infections on Wednesday.

The Jaffna main bus stand, the market and the surrounding area have been shut down. Travel restrictions are in effect in several areas adjoining the bus stand and the main market.

About 25 of the 79 infections were detected at the Jaffna market. Two schools in the restricted zone have been closed until further notice.

These cases were detected when 677 PCR tests were conducted. More than 560 PCR tests were conducted on Thursday (25), but the results were not known at the time of going to press.
