Court of Appeal to hear ex-CID Head Shani’s bail application on April 29

The Court of Appeal, yesterday (17), fixed for hearing on 29 April, the application for bail filed by the former DIG of the CID, Shani Abeysekera.

Deputy Solicitor General, Shani Kularatne said he would file objections before that day.

 The Deputy Solicitor General appeared for the Attorney General.

Counsel Viran Corea, who appeared for Shani Abeysekera informed court that his client was a heart patient, whose health condition should be taken into account. Abeysekera reserved the right to ask for interim relief, if necessary.

 Abeysekera was arrested on an allegation of fabricating false evidence in respect of the High Court Trial-at-Bar, which convicted former DIG Vass Gunawardena and his son of conspiracy to murder businessman Mohammed Shyam, in Colombo.

 The Court of Appeal Bench comprised Justice Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne and Justice R. Gurusinghe.
