Controversial bills to be presented to Parliament on Tuesday

Minister of Justice, Prisons Affairs and Constitutional Reforms, Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe will present the Anti-Terrorism Bill, while Minister of Public Security, Tiran Alles, will present the Online Safety Bill to Parliament on 03 October.
Below are the bills to be debated during the Parliament week.
On Tuesday, 03 October 2023, from 10.30 am to 5.00 p.m. Civil Procedure Code (Amendment) Bill (Second Reading), Elections (Special Provisions) Bill (Second Reading), Regulations under the Mediation (Special Categories of Disputes) Act and Order under the Judicature Act have been scheduled to be taken up for debate.Subsequently, from 5.00 pm to 5.30 pm the Motion at the Adjournment Time by the Government will be taken up for debate.
On Wednesday, 04 October 2023, from 10.30 am to 5.00 pm, three Resolutions under the Customs Ordinance (Vide Gazette Extraordinary Nos. 2336/72, 2338/54 & 2341/64), Orders under the Special Commodity Levy Act (Vide Gazette Extraordinary Nos. 2332/14, 2332/53, 2337/16 & 2340/45) and National Eye Bank Trust of Sri Lanka Bill (Second Reading) will be taken up for debate.
Thereafter time has been allotted from 5.00 pm to 5.30 pm for Questions at the Adjournment Time.
On Thursday, 5 October 2023, from 10.30 am to 5.00 pm the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (Amendment) Bill (Second Reading), Civil Aviation (Amendment) Bill (Second Reading), Regulations under the Civil Aviation Act, Regulations under the Licensing of Shipping Agents, Freight Forwarders, Non-Vessel Operating Common Carriers and Container Operators Act have been scheduled to be taken up for debate.
From 5.00 pm to 5.30 pm the Motion at the Adjournment Time by the Government will be taken up.
On Friday, 6 October 2023, from 10.30 am to 5.30 pm, the Adjournment Debate on the trend of professionals leaving the country due to the economic crisis by Opposition will be taken up, the Secretary General stated.

Cabinet approves 14 day Visa extension
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the resolution furnished bys the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs to extend Visas of those unable to leave Sri Lanka due to the
cancellation of flights to the Middle East from 28.02.2026 for another 14 days without any payments and re-extend the extended Visas for another 14 days without payments if the flights cancellations continue.

Sunil Galagama appointed as District Secretary Badulla
Taking into consideration the resolution furnished by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Council, and Local Government, the Cabinet of Ministers has decided to appoint Sunil Galagama, a Special Grade Officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, who is currently serving as an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, as the District Secretary to Badulla Administrative District with immediate effect.

Anupama Mangala Wickramaarachchi appointed District Secretary Ampara
The Cabinet of Ministers, taking into consideration the resolution furnished by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Council, and Local Government, have decided to appoint Anupama Mangala Wickramaarachchi, a special grade officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, who is serving as the Additional Commissioner General of Agrarian Development of the Department of the Agrarian Development at present, as the District Secretary , Ampara Administrative district with immediate effect.
