CMC pulls down billboard against environmental destruction

The Colombo Municipal Council yesterday pulled down a billboard, environmentalists had put up near the Nelum Pokuna theatre, Colombo, against environmental degradation,

The billboard was created by artists representing several environmental groups, including the youth wing of the Wildlife and Nature Protection Society in protesting against environmental destruction.

The organisers of the event said that they had obtained approval from the CMC and the police for erecting the billboard and the protest as well.

They said that workers from the CMC arrived yesterday morning and removed the hoarding.

According to an organiser the CMC said that the organizers had used scaffolding to hold up the mural and no permission had been given for using scaffolding.
