WEATHER FORECAST FOR 05 SEPTEMBER 2025
Issued at 05.30 a.m. on 05 September 2025 by the Department of Meteorology

A few showers may occur in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya and Jaffna districts whileshowers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Uva province and in Ampara, Batticaloa and Mullaitivu districts after 2.00 p.m. Mainly fair weather will prevail elsewhere of the island.

Fairly strong winds of about (30-40) kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills and in the North-central and North-western provinces and in Hambantota district.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR 08 MARCH 2026
Issued at 05.30 a.m. on 08 March 2026.  by the Department of Meteorology

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Northern, North-central, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Uva and North-western provinces during the early hours of the morning.

Except for showers or thundershowers that may occur at a few places in the Southern province and Rathnapura district after 2.00 pm, dry weather will prevail over the other areas of the island.

Warm Weather Advisory issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Department of Meteorology  at 3.30 p.m. on 07 March 2026, valid for 08 March 2026.

Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in the Sabaragamuwa, North-western and North-central provinces and in Colombo, Gampaha, Vavuniya, Mannar, Hambantota and Monaragala districts

The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.

Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.

ACTION REQUIRED

Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.
