15,000 Sputnik doses arrive

Another stock of 15,000 doses of the Sputnik V vaccine arrived in the country yesterday (11).

Earlier, there was uncertainty over the vaccines which were scheduled to be delivered to Sri Lanka from Russia.

Deputy Director-General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath had said that research was already going on to decide on the next course of action in the event the required stocks are not received.

According to the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health, 159,081 people have been given the Sputnik V vaccine as the first dose.

Of that 26,821 jabs were administered in May, 87,974 in June and 44,286 in August.

Only 14,516 jabs of the Sputnik V vaccine had been administered as the second dose so far, Dr. Herath said.

The Sri Lankan delegation, led by Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mrs. Sagarika Boghawatta, included officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Indonesian delegation was represented by Deputy Ambassador . Fiki Oktanioand Minister Counsellor Mrs. Lailal K. Yuniarti.
