Thribashith, Nethsala win best athlete titles
Royal, Ave Maria clinch titles

Royal College, Colombo and Ave Maria Convent, Negombo won the boys’ and girls’ championships as Nethsala Rajapaksha of Lyceum International School, Wattala and high jumper Shandheeban Thribashith of S. Thomas’ Preparatory School, Colombo clinched the best athlete titles of the Sir John Tarbat Junior Athletics Championship concluded on Sunday.
In a closely contested boys’ competition Royal aggregated 44 points to edge out Trinity(42.5) by 1.5 points. Maris Stella, Negombo came agonisingly close collecting 42 points to end up as the second runner up.
Ave Maria won the girls’ title with an aggregate of 83 points. Lyceum International, Wattala and Mahamaya Girls’ College, Kadawatha finished second and third respectively with 57 and 40.5 points.
Thribashith cleared a remarkable height of 1.90 metres to win the Under 15 boys’ high jump event. The six-footer’s performance found to be the best performance in the boys’ category.
Nethsala Rajapaksha who collected the best athlete title of her age category at the recently held All Island Schools Games, bagged the Best Athlete title in this meet for her long jump feat. She cleared 5.64 metres to establish a new meet record in the Under 14 girls’ long jump.
