Partner of B.R. de Silva & Co appointed 26th President, ICA

Sanjaya Bandara (FCMA) – a Partner of B.R.de Silva & Co., was recently appointed as the 26th President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka for the term 2022/23. Having commenced his professional career, at B.R.de Silva over two decades ago, Bandara has, throughout his distinguished career made significant contributions towards advancing the accounting profession of Sri Lanka. Having served as a Council Member of CA Sri Lanka since 2012, he most recently held the position of Vice President in 2020/21. During this period, he chaired the Finance and Administration Committee, Exemptions and Reciprocal Arrangements Committee, International Relations Committee and the Board of Management of the School of Accounting and Business.

In addition to his engagements at CA Sri Lanka, Bandara also serves as a Member of the Board of the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA) and a technical advisor of the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA). He is a Council Member of the University of Kelaniya and the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) of Sri Lanka in addition to serving as a Board Member of the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board and a member of the Financial System Stability Consultative Committee (FSSCC) of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. He is a regular contributor at seminars and workshops on the Sri Lanka Accounting Standards (LKAS/SLFRS) and Sri Lanka Auditing Standards. Bandara holds a BSc. Accountancy Special Degree from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and an MBA from the University of Colombo.

With this appointment, Bandara joins ranks with three alumni of B.R. de Silva & Co. who have previously served as Presidents of CA Sri Lanka. Over an established track record of nearly 70 years, B.R. de Silva & Co. have played a vital role in supporting Sri Lanka’s aspiring young accounting professionals, providing opportunities for both skill and career progression. The Company has, to date produced over 300 Chartered Accountants, contributing towards developing the country’s skilled labour force.
