Bus fares would not be increased despite Tuesday’s diesel price hike by five rupees, General Secretary of the All Ceylon Private Bus Owners Association Anjana Priyanjith said yesterday.

“However, if diesel prices increase again, we will have to increase bus fares by a significant amount,” he said.

Chairman of the all-island three-wheeler drivers association, Lalith Dharmasekara said that they would not reduce fares despite a nine rupee reduction in 92 octane petrol prices.

All-Ceylon School Children Transport Association (ACSCTA) Secretary Lalith Chandrasiri said they, too, would not increase fares.

“VAT, too, has been increased. Things are looking bad for everyone,” he said.

The fuel prices of Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), Lanka IOC and Sinopec are now equal following Tuesday’s fuel price hike.

The price of a litre of Octane 92 petrol is Rs. 356. The prices of Octane 95 petrol, auto diesel and super diesel are Rs. 423, Rs. 356 and Rs. 431, respectively.
