Better times are ahead

Last week, the All Blacks gave the Springboks a real hiding, thrashing them 52-0. It’s not as if the All Blacks were ranked number-one in the world and the Springboks are much lower in the ladder. The South Africans are the world’s third-ranked team and the result Eden Park in Auckland showed you that there is a vast gap between world’s number-one ranked team and the third. Sri Lanka’s cricket coach Nic Pothas the other day had compared the Indian cricket team to the All Blacks. The Indians completely annihilated their Sri Lankan counterparts and are doing very much the same to the hapless Australians currently.

Dominance in cricket is like a cycle. You had the West Indies dominating the world in 1970s and 1980s before Australia took a firm grip on the game in 1990s and 2000s. This decade, it seems the Indians have stamped their authority thanks to the IPL.

When the All Blacks massacre the Springboks, we shouldn’t come to the conclusion that everything is wrong in South African rugby. Similarly, when the Indians comprehensively beat the Sri Lankans in all games on the tour, we shouldn’t draw up the mind that cricket is in total shambles.
