Stock of 10,300 Kgs of outdated and inferior quality wheat flour was seized by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) from a wholesale establishment near the Pattiwala National Housing Scheme at Gonawala yesterday morning.

Nipun Ekanayake, Media Secretary to the Minister of Cooperatives and Internal Trade Johnston Fernando told The Island yesterday (5) that the seized flour was meant to bake bread and the outdated flour was also to be sent to the open market to manufacture various kinds of Roti too, including Parata.

The flour was estimated to be worth Rs. 1 million and was of low quality and some of it had already been sent to the market after changing dates of manufacture and expiry.

Minister Fernando had directed the CAA to be extra vigilant against unscrupulous traders and to nab and prosecute them.
