CAA offers rewards to informants

Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) yesterday announced that it would pay cash rewards to those who provided information regarding frauds which violate the Consumer Services Act.

Spokesman of the Ministry of Co-operatives and Internal Trade Nipun Ekanayake said that CAA had conducted numerous raids on establishments selling consumer goods unfit for human consumption.

Ekanayake said that the decision had been taken as there was an increase in rackets of selling and preparing essential food items unfit for human consumption using synthetic dyes and other banned ingredients.

To receive a reward, a tip-off should lead to recovery of items worth at least than Rs. 2.5 million, he said.

Ekanayake said the people can contact the CAA Chairman Rumy Marzook on 0117755475 and CAA Deputy Director Asela Bandara on 0771088922 to provide information.
