Minister’s bro causes major upset in NCP

S. M. Ranjith (UPFA), the brother of Agrarian Service and Wildlife Minister S. M. Chandrasena, created an upset by obtaining the highest number of preferential votes (105,232) from the Anuradhapura district at the North-Central Provincial Council poll.
Twice Chief Minister of the NCP Berty Premalal Dissanayake was pushed into second place with 95,027 votes.
Chandima Gamage topped the UNP list with 32,919 votes followed by Prasanna Mahindage (30,544).
JVP trade union leader Wasantha Samarasinghe was the sole victor from that party with 2,134 votes.
Former Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake was not available for comment.
