Diamond eater in Court day

The Chinese national, Chou Cheng, who stole a diamond, valued at Rs 1.8 million, from a stall at the annual Gem and Jewellery exhibition, at the BMICH on September 06, will be produced in Court today along with the gem, police said.
The suspect, who had been arrested by the Cinnamon Gardens police, had purged the stone on Friday after having been given laxatives at the Colombo National Hospital.
The investigations have revealed that he belonged to an international group of racketeers operating in several countries.
The gem was stolen from the stall of Belgrade International. The suspect had been accompanied by 20 of his accomplices.
Every detail of the act was recorded on the CCTV camera installed at the stall, the police said.
They said that the gem was placed in protective custody and would be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today along with the suspect.
His accomplices are at large and the police are looking for them.
