Lanka’s oldest Maha Nayaka Thera passes away at 103

Sri Lanka’s oldest living Maha Nayaka Thera and Maha Nayaka of the Ramanna Maha Nikaya - the Most Venerable Veveldeniye Medhalankara Thera passed away last evening. He was 103 years old at the time of his death.
The late prelate who passed away at 6.33 pm yesterday was also the 12th Maha Nayaka Thera of the Ramanna Maha Nikaya. He was also the Pirivenadhipathi of the Mirigama Shasanavardhana Pirivena. He was also awarded the accolade of Sasana Sobhana Sri Sudharma Vagiswaracharya Sri Samanankaropa Senavanshawa Thanha Agga Maha Saddhamma Jothikadhajaya Dharma Shasthra Siromani Sahithya Chakra Varthi.
Born on December 7, 1909 to Singankutti Arachhi Isan Appuhamy and Rajapaksa Vitharanalage Liyoguhamy at Hapitiyagama Udugahapattuwe Veveldeniya in Millawa, as the sixth child in a family of eight, he was ordained at the age of 12 on May 12, 1930.
