Impressive connections!

Patrick Rutnam has a connection; he is the nephew of the well-known film producer and director Chandran Rutnam. And, Patrick’s father, George Rutnam, happens to be a popular figure in his hometown of Los Angeles, in California.

George has been to Elvis Presley’s Graceland, on several occasions, seen the late Elvis in action, chatted with Anne Margret, who acted with Elvis in ‘Viva Las Vegas,’ and even had the opportunity of meeting the great boxer, the late Mohammad Ali (Cassius Clay).

Patrick came into the spotlight, in Sri Lanka, when he teamed up with singer April Schokman, for a video recording of the song that Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper turned into a massive hit – ‘Shallow.’

Patrick’s version did get a lot of attention on YouTube.

The video also shows a glimpse of bassist Benjy as the band Mirage provided the music for this particular video.

Unfortunately, singing is not Patrick’s first preference, but acting, and that’s where he has made his mark, in a small way, in the States.

He has been featured in quite a few TV commercials, and was seen in a big way in a soft drink television advertisement which was shown throughout the States.

In the movie scene, Patrick is best known for his role in ‘A Common Man’ - a 2013 American-Sri Lankan thriller film, directed by Sri Lankan filmmaker Chandran Rutnam, and with Ben Kingsley and Ben Cross in the limelight.

His next project, he says, will be a series of television programmes, which will be called ‘Hidden Pockets.’

These 30-minute programmes will feature the actor/producer/singer exploring the politics, culture and food of countries throughout the world.

The first episode will highlight ‘The Wonder of Asia’ - Sri Lanka.

Talking about his singing career, Patrick said that he does get on stage and entertain but all that is on a very low key.

However, now that he is in Colombo, on a short vacation, he says he would love to do another video duet scene.
