Govt. to se up two more teacher training colleges

The government was planning to establish two more teacher training colleges to ensue that there were enough teachers, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said at an event at BMICH, recently.

"I have had discussions with the Minister of Education on the importance of allowing GCE AL students to take up science subjects. We plan to provide more science teachers to schools and we are thinking of establishing two more teacher training schools."

Wickremesinghe added that the number of students entering GCE AL classes would double with the government making 13 years of education mandatory. "These children too will get free tab computers and free WiFi at schools."

The government was also planning to provide technical based education to those in technical schools and universities. "We have spoken to the Vice Chancellor of Moratuwa University. We want them to enrol 20,000 undergraduates and 5,000 postgraduate students. The University of Peradeniya must also aim at similar targets. These universities must establish other institutions based on their engineering faculties."
