Bribery investigations against President’s Chief of Staff completed

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC, yesterday, told the Chief Magistrate of Colombo Lanka Jayaratna that the bribery investigations against I. H. Mahanama, the former chief of staff of the President and Piyadasa Dissanayake, the former chairman of the Timber Corporation, were over and they would be charged, shortly.

The duo allegedly attempted to sell iron scrap metal belonging the State Sugar Corporation unlawfully to an Indian businessman and obtain a bribe for the deal. When the suspects were about to accept Rs. 20 million out of the total sum of Rs. 50 million, the CIABOC sleuths arrested them.

The case will be called again on September 10.
