Trinity cruise past Anthonians

Special Sports Correspondent in Kandy

In a clash of two very strong teams, Trinity performed exceptionally well to defeat the Antonians by 63 runs in their Under 17 Division-I clash at Asgiriya.

Ranuda Somaratne laid the platform for this win with a superb, unbeaten 102 that came off 103 balls. He had seven hits to the boundary. Skipper Anandakumar, Raizan, Pathiraja and Akram made note-worthy contributions in Trinity’s massive total.

Gihan Ebert batted with courage and determination to top-score for the losers with 55 not out. Wickremasinghe, Herath, Bandara and Jayatilleka all got starts but couldn’t go on.

The Antonian bowling, which had an Under 19 trialist and a left armer who took over 700 wickets last season was blankly disappointing.

(Ranuda Somaratne 102 n.o., Pawan Pathiraja 44, Abishek Anandakumar 39, Umer Raizan 36, Mohamed Akram 22, Chamindu Wickremasinghe 1-65).

(Chamindu Wickremasinghe 36, Gihan Ebert 55 n.o., C. Bandara 25, Chandimal Herath 26, Nimnaka Jayatilleka 26 n.o., Abishek Anandakumara 2-32, Umer Raizan 2-40).
