Re-elected Indian Premier Narendra Modi has pledged to offer any assistance required by Sri Lanka, the President’s Media Division said on Friday.

He gave this assurance during discussions with President Maithripala Sirisena  on the sidelines of Modi’s swearing-in ceremony.

The meeting had taken place at the official residence of Prime Minister Modi.

During the meeting, Modi said  that the bilateral ties between both countries in terms of peace and development must be further strengthened.

Both leaders had pledged to take measures to eliminate terrorism and ensure peace in the region, according to the President’s Media Division press release.

While congratulating Premier Modi on his re-election to office, President Sirisena had expressed hope of strengthening the ties between the two neighbouring countries during the Indian leader’s second term in office.
