Expect more tax increases - Bandula

The present administration had no way of increasing its revenue and, therefore, increased taxes, UPFA MP Bandula Gunawardena told media yesterday in Colombo.

"There will be some tax increases in the coming budget. There has been a twofold increase in taxes under the present administration, compared to that under the Rajapaksa government.

Gunawardena said that the government had placed the Appropriation Bill before parliament and Rs. 2,232 billion is had to be raised. On March 05, the Finance Minister will say how that will be done, he said.

"There are two ways of raising money, Tax and non-tax sources. The government has shown that it knows how to raise revenue only by increasing taxes and we can expect the same in this budget."
