Priyantha throws to gold at Para Asian Games


Dinesh Priyantha Herath established a new Games record as he won the men’s T46 javelin throw to further increase Sri Lanka’s medal count at the Para Asian Games in Indonesia on Thursday.

A trainee of reputed throwing coach Pradeep Nishantha, Priyantha cleared 61.84 metres in his very first attempt to lead the competition. The second, third and fourth places were secured by Indian throwers. Of them two went beyond the 60 metres mark but could not surpass Priyantha, who also had one other other throw over 60 metres mark.

Meanwhile, Palitha Bandara won silver in the men’s F42 Shot Putt as he cleared 13.21 metres.

By yesterday Sri Lanka had won a total of 13 medals, four golds, five silvers and four bronzes.
