IGP finally fulfills CC instructions after warning from Speaker

The implementation of all recommendations by the National Police Commission had been duly completed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) within the two weeks’ period given to him, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said.

The Speaker made this observation in Parliament yesterday in reply to concerns raised by Joint Opposition Parliamentary Group Leader Dinesh Gunawardena.

The Speaker summoned IGP Pujith Jayasundara and the National Police Commission members for a special meeting of the Constitutional Council (CC) on Sept. 7. During the meeting the IGP was instructed to report to the CC within 14 days on the progress of the implementation of the recommendations of the Police Commission.

"MP Gunawardena alleged that the Police Commission’s recommendations have not been implemented. I will like to correct him that all the recommendations have been duly implemented now. Both the IGP and the Police Commission reported this to me." (SI)
