'Trade and investment openings waiting to be tapped between Morocco and Sri Lanka'

Sri Lanka and Morocco have immense potential to promote trade and investment opportunities; this potential needs to be harnessed properly, Minister of Sports, Provincial Councils and Local Government Faiszer Mustapha said.

"At present the trade balance is in favor of Morocco and the need of the hour is to promote Sri Lankan exports to Morocco, which is considered to be in the middle income category, Minister Mustapha said at the 19th anniversary of the enthronement of King Mohammed V1 of the Kingdom of Morocco, which was held at the Galle Face Hotel. Several ministers, ambassadors from different countries, business heads and others attended the event.  

The minister who was the chief guest at the event said that the Sri Lanka and Morocco relationship goes back several centuries and trad, investment and diplomatic relationships need to be developed unhindered.

The ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to India and Sri Lanka Mohomed Maliki addressing the gathering said that Sri Lanka is an important country for Morocco because it is now a fast developing nation in the Indian subcontinent.

He also said that he wants to develop bilateral trade and investments between the two countries, for which they have already laid the foundation.

The Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Morocco to Sri Lanka Ashan Refai said that since the bilateral relationship is centuries long, looking at possibilities to enhance trade and investment between the two countries is advisable.

Refai also said that he plans to attract up market tourists into Sri Lanka because Morocco is a middle income country .

The Consul said plans are on to set up two sister cities between the two countries in order to further promote social, cultural, trade and investment ties, between the countries.
