Hemantha passes away



President’s Counsel Hemantha Warnakulasuriya passed away on Monday night. He was 74.  

A well-known senior criminal lawyer, Warnakulasuriya also served as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador. He also served at the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission.

Warnakulasuriya served as the Chairman of Sri Lanka Legal Aid Commission and as an Assistant Secretary to the Bar Association of Sri Lanka.

He was appointed convener of the ‘Professional Affairs Committee’, which drafted the "Code of Conduct and Etiquette for Attorneys-at-Law’.

Hemantha also served as the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Italy, Greece and Albania and as the High Commissioner to Malta and Cyprus.

Hemantha penned a column, Musings, for The Island.

His funeral is scheduled to be held at the Borella Cemetery on Saturday (14).
