UNNF leader thanks JVP for sending letter of demand instead of assassin

Maithri Gunaratne

United National Freedom Front (UNFF) leader Maithri Gunaratne yesterday thanked the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) for sending him a letter of demand for Rs 500 million, over an allegation he made, instead of an assassin.

Gunaratne has alleged that a JVP MP obtained donations from Perpetual Treasuries (Pvt) Ltd and in response the JVP has sent a letter of demand.

"If I had made a similar allegation in the late 80s, the JVP would have responded violently. I am glad that they are acting within the bounds of law," he said. Gunaratne however doubled down on his initial allegations and asked JVP MP concerned to present an affidavit stating that he had not obtained money from PTL.

"No need to send me letters of demand. Just send an affidavit saying you didn’t take any money. Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said that he had given a huge donation to the JVP. MP Chathura Senaratne also stated that he had given the JVP money. The JVP didn’t take any legal action against them. (RK)
