Annites overpower Anthonians to enter final

St. Anne’s defeated St. Anthony’s by six wickets in terms of the Duckworth/Lewis method to enter the final of the Division Two Limited over tournament. The match was played at the Asgiriya Stadium.

Wanitha Wanninayake played the innings of the day, striking 43 at better than a run-a-ball. He had five boundaries and a six. Dhananjaya Bandara and Kavindu Ranasinghe helped Anne’s reach the target with good supporting knocks.

The Anthonian success-story Nimnaka Jayatilleka bagged 2-20 in a losing cause.

The Anthonians failed to get on top of the Annite attack. There were three run outs in their innings.

The architects of the win were the St. Anne’s bowlers. Left-arm spinner Pasindu Tennekoon had 4-21 in seven overs, ‘chinaman’ Dhananjaya Bandara 1-4 in four overs, off spinner Kavindu Ekanayake 1-5 in 3 overs and skipper Randeera Ranasinghe 1-10 kept a tight lid on the scoring.

Scheduled to start at 9.45, the match got underway only at 1 p.m. because of a wet outfield. An innings was limited to 33 overs.
