TNA rubbishes Podujana Peramuna’s new deal claim with UNP

by Zacki Jabbar

Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne  said yesterday that the UNP had not entered into any new agreement with the TNA during the recent  Podujana Peramuna  led No Confidence Motion against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in Parliament which was defeated by 46 votes.

The TNA, he explained   had only called on the UNP to ensure that pledges given at the last Presidential and General Elections, with regard to the rights of the Tamils to live as equal citizens and with dignity be implemented without any further delay.

"There is no new UNP-TNA secret deal   as claimed by the Podujana Peramuna leader Mahinda Rajapaksa who is  smarting from his failed attempt to oust Ranil Wickremesinghe after having swallowed dead ropes from a section of the SLFP and UNP" , Senaratne noted." This allegation is a clear case of old wine in a new bottle."He said that that the Podujana Peramuna, which exposed its inability to count and ignorance about the thinking of parliamentarians in Government and Opposition, was now trying to cover up its embarrassing defeat by resorting to lies.

Senaratne pointed out that Jaffna District TNA MP M.A.Sumanthiran had categorically stated that the TNA had not struck any new deal with the UNP, secret or otherwise.
