Prof. denies receiving USD

Funds for new Constitution:

Convenor of the National Movement for Social Justice (NMSJ) Prof. Sarath Wijesooriya has challenged critics to prove widespread accusations of him receiving funds from NGOs.

Prof. Wijesooriya said he was being vilified by those who had been opposed to the ongoing constitution making process. The academic was addressing a gathering at the new town hall opposite Viharamahadevi park on Monday.

Prof. Wijesooriya succeeded the late Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha as the head of NMSJ. Commenting on accusations that had been directed against him on television, social media and other public platforms, Prof. Wijesooriya said that he wasn’t being motivated by any financial gains. The Sinhala language professor said that he wasn’t a ‘Dollar vulture’ as alleged by some.

Prof. Wijesooriya strongly condemned retired Maj. Gen. Kamal Gunaratne and retired Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera for publicly threatening with death those who had been working hard to bring in a new Constitution,. (SF)
