A thriller concludes Joes third term

Chasing a target of 103 runs to win in 12 overs St. Joseph’s came almost close to registering their fifth outright victory of the season as they reached 102 for six wickets at close against Lumbini in the Inter School Under-19 tournament match ended in thrilling fashion at Darley Road on Tuesday.

Johanne de Zilva (35) and Sachintha Ravindu (33n.o.) scored valuable 30s in their chase.

Lumbini fought hard in the second innings to post 316 runs and make the Joes bat again.

Sandunil Sankalpa (82), Kavin Peiris (50) and Vinu Hemal (66) scored the bulk of runs.

For Joes Lakshan Gamage completed a match bag of ten wickets as he took seven wickets in the second innings.

The thrilling finish brought the curtain down on Joes’ third term. They have played nine matches and have registered four outright victories during the third term.

Vinuka shines with century

Vinuka Rubasinghe scored an unbeaten century (101n.o. in 224 balls) inclusive of nine fours as Mahanama, Colombo earned first innings honours in their match against St. Anthony’s, Wattala in their Under-19 match at Bloomfield ground on Tuesday.

Mahinda on first innings

Kavindu Ediriweera and Navod Paranavithana took three wickets each for Mahinda College to score first innings points against Ananda College in their Under-19 tournament match ended at Galle on Tuesday.
