A 17-member Pakistan army rugby team, led by Brig. Ghulam Jilani, played a series of matches with their Sri Lankan counterparts in Colombo recently, as part of the ongoing sports exchange programme.

The games between the two armed forces were exciting and keenly contested, Press Attache at the Pakistan High Commission, Intisar Ahmad Sulehry said.

He recalled that in December last year, the Pakistan army hockey and Air Force soccer teams had also played several friendly matches against the Sri Lanka Army and Air Force, respectively.

"In keeping with the policy of our governments to strengthen people to people contacts, the sports exchange programme would be reinforced further," he emphasised.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka are scheduled to play their first day-and-night Test cricket match, with a pink ball, in the United Arab Emirates, either in September or October this year.
