Plight of medicos boycotting lectures raised by GMOA

Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) yesterday urged responsible authorities to resolve the issue surrounding the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) as soon as possible so that undergraduates who were boycotting lectures over the issue would be able to resume their studies.

Responding to a question regarding the plight of all undergraduates who had boycotted lectures for the last several months in protest against the SAITM, Assistant Secretary, Dr Naveen D. Zoysa admitted that his union was partly responsible for the situation. It was a part of the protest campaign, he said.

The government however had to find a solution to the issue for them to resume studies, he said.

Dr. Zoysa said that it would also lead to a dearth of interns in hospitals while students who qualified to follow medicine at their G.C.E. A/L would have to wait a while.(DJ)
