New Defence Secy pledges to uphold dignity of Security forces

KANDY – The new Defence Secretary Kapila Waidyaratne, addressing the media in Kandy over the weekend said he would take every possible step to ensure security of the country and uphold the dignity of the security forces.

Defence Secretary Kapila Waidyaratne paid homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic and called on the prelates of Asgiriya and Malwatte.

The former Senior Additional Solicitor General pledged not to make use of the forces in activities that would bring them into disrepute. He would take every possible step to uphold their dignity, he added.

Waidyaratne said that members of the armed forces would not be arrested or taken into custody without adequate evidence to prove the allegations against them.

He would always take measures to protect the members of the forces, he said.

Prelate of Asgiriya Most Ven. Warkagoda Sri Gnanaratana Thera said the new Defence Secretary was capable of carrying out his duties and functions efficiently.

Malwatte Maha Nayake Thera Most Venerable Tibbatuwawe Sri Siddharatha Sumangala Thera blessed Waidyaratne and wished him success.
