Sri Lanka Shipping Company  Ltd, the largest privately owned marine transport company, has taken over the first self unloading  cement carrier from Jinglu ship yard in China.

The vessel was named "Mahanuwara"  and delivered to her owners on the 10th of July 2017.

She was constructed in China within a period of 18 months.

The vessel is 21,000 in deadweight, length is 157 metres, powered by a 5180 KW main engine and can accommodate 30 crew members.

She is the first self unloading cement carrier under the Sri Lanka Flag, owned and managed by Sri Lanka Shipping Company Ltd.

This ship is equipped with cutting edge technology in the loading and discharging of cement-in-bulk.

She also complies with all international maritime rules & is classed under DNV-GL.

This company has thus created employment opportunities for Sri Lanka seafarers and is totally manned by Sri Lanka officers & crew.

The vessel is chartered to Ultratech Lanka Pvt Ltd for the transport of cement to Sri Lanka.

She is now on her way to Colombo port with a cargo of cement for discharging.

At a time where the maritime industry is looking dull, it must be admired that a fully owned Sri Lankan Company has taken the challenge to build and operate a ship of this type.
