Girl injured in underworld attack on police dies


Twelve-year-old Samadhi Pathirana, who was on life support at the Intensive Care Unit of the National Hospital during the last 10 days after being a victim of gunfire from a drug ring, breathed her last yesterday

She was a student of Ratnavalee Vidyalaya, Borella.

She and her elder brother Sadeepa Rukshan (17) and younger sister Senuri (08) were hit by gunfire from a T-56 assault rifle when members of a drug dealing ring shot at a team of policemen travelling in a car to bust a drug deal at Suharapola, Piliyandala on May 9.

The little victims were waiting near their father’s eatery at the time of the incident.

Rukshan, who is in a serious condition, is being treated at the ICU of the Colombo South Teaching Hospital at Kalubowila.

Senuri was discharged from hospital a few days ago.

One policeman was killed and two others were injured in the attack.

Inspector Neomal Rangajeewa, one of the injured is in a serious condition
