The government has put off the three-day debate on draft constitution scheduled to commence on Monday (Jan. 9). A top parliamentary official told The Island that fresh dates hadn't been decided as yet. No reason was given for the postponement.
UNP National List MP Dr. Jayampathy Wickremaratne recently said that the Steering Committee appointed by the Constitutional Assembly headed by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe would meet on Jan. 5 and 6 to finalise the draft Constitution and the debate would commence on Jan. 09.
