202,562 vacancies in public sector
Home Affairs State Minister Ashoka Priyantha told Parliament yesterday that there were 202,562 vacancies in the public sector.
Responding to a question by SLPP Colombo District MP Jagath Kumara Sumithrarachchi, the Minister said that despite the vacancies, the state sector institutions had managed to serve the people. There were 1,191,651 employees in the public sector as of yesterday, he said.
MP Sumithrarachchi said that owing to vacancies there were many problems in the judiciary and Samurdhi institutions.
The minister said that the recruitment to the public service was carried out on recommendations by a committee headed by the Secretary to the Prime Minister.
